2/11/13

Apologies for the lateness.
On Monday we started the class with SSR. Then we added Assignment 70 (LC Disc Prep 9) to our notebooks.
After this Mrs. Ortega had us write the questions: "What was the authors intent in including this in there piece?" and "What specific techniques did he/she use and to what effect?" Then we chose a passage from the our reading that really struck you so that we could discuss it with our LC group.

The Membership Grid question was: "If you were a crayola, what color would you be and why?"

Hey West House!

So today we did SSR for 20 minutes, then we talked about a Scrabble Tournament we'll be having. Each group will play, and every group picked a member to be the leader to lead the game. On Wednesday, we'll play :D After that, we got into our group discussion. The topic we talked about was: What is the weirdest food you've ever eaten? Then we started to discuss the book. That's it! Oh, and add "LC Disc Prep 7" to your table of contents. Bye!

Hi West house,

Below is the agenda for 1/17/2013 Thursday, English class.

1) SSR: 20 minutes of reading Since today is literature discussion day, reading the literature circle book is NOT allowed.

2) Asking Good Questions: So today in class, we discussed what makes a good question to ask. Mrs. Ortega had us discuss it with our groups and each one of us have to choose a good question from our literature discussion prep assignments. After group discussion, we went around in each table and shared out the  good questions that we have, and the qualities that we think are the qualities of good questions.

3) Membership Grid: The question for today is "if you have a yacht, what would you name it?"/

4) Literature Discussion: Discussing the literature circle book.

That is it for today. Bye!

1/16/2013

Hi West House,

Below is the agenda for 1/16/2013:

1) SSR: just regular 20 minutes of reading.

2) EPT Info: Mr.s Ortega gave us some valuable information on the EPT and the college placement exams in general. It is assignment 54 in your notebook.

3) EPT Rubric: Mrs. Ortega passed out a scoring guide/rubric for the EPT. This is just to give you an idea on how your essay is being graded on the scale of 1- 6 (bad - good).

4) Group Scoring Practice: We read six different pieces of EPT on the same prompt that we did for our timed writing. Everyone was supposed to grade the paper using the EPT rubric with his or her table group.

5) Class Discussion: The final moment of revealing the scores has finally came. Mrs. Ortega told us the the grade for each writing and we had a class discussion over it.

Thats it for today, peace out west house.

01/10/13

West House! Today in Ortega's we were introduced to the lovely Erica. She will be a tutor in, both, Ortega's and Edward's class. She would be able to help anyone about any question they have regarding an essay or anything.

We also did our very first LC for the book. Remember to keep up with the groups reading and try not to read ahead.

Well that's it for me. :) Happy Friday.
